Computing Studies

Computing studies at Inverell High School is taught in three stages:
  • Computing in years 7 & 8 is integrated into the Design and Technology courses.
  • Computing in years 9 & 10 is known as Information and Software Technology.
  • Computing in years 11 & 12 is taught through one of three courses;
    • Information Processes and Technology (IPT),
    • Software Design and Development (SDD) and
    • Information Technology VET (IT VET).

Stage 5 - Years 9 and 10 - Information and Software Technology

Information and Software Technology is an exciting new syllabus that will be introduced into Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) in 2006.
The aim of this course is to provide a creative and student-centred environment where students develop knowledge, understanding and confidence in analyzing, designing and evaluating information and software technology solutions.
Students will learn to design, produce and evaluate their own projects in a variety of technology areas. Core areas of the course include the study of past, current and emerging technologies, data handling, understanding computer hardware and software, the legal, ethical, social and industrial issues associated with I.S.T. and the roles and responsibilities of people involved in the field of I.S.T.
The course offers eight option areas:
  • Artificial Intelligence,
  • Simulation and Modelling,
  • Authoring Multimedia,
  • Database Design,
  • Digital Media,
  • The Internet and Website Development,
  • Networking Options,
  • Robotics and Automated Systems, and
  • Software Development and Programming.
Year 10 students in 2005 have had the opportunity to design their own personal website, create a fun collage using Paint Shop Pro and learn basic programming.
Students who study Information and Software Technology with be given the opportunity to extend their skills and knowledge through participation in workshops such a 'e-girls' and Programming Competitions held during the year.

Stage 6 - Years 11 and 12

Senior studies in Computing at Inverell High School is offered in one of three strands. Each strand allows students to explore this exciting area to the depth that they require. There is a large degree of crossover in the knowledge requirements for each course, allowing composite classes to run in the same room.
